border Joint Demarcation Continues

by admin last modified 2008-11-12 10:57

February 2, 2007: A joint border demarcation exercise between Burma and India that started on 30 January is still continuing, reports a border source.

The joint demarcation team is inspecting several pillars and border links along the south of Burma's Chin State and the neighboring Indian state of Mizoram.

A 27-member Indian team led by P.K. Prad Hal accompanied by Assam Rifles 41 is working with a 29-member Burmese team led by U Aung Aung, an official from Burma's land survey department.

A source said the joint border demarcation teams scrutinized border pillar number 2, situated near the tri-junction of India, Burma, and Bangladesh, on 30 January, and moved on to inspecting pillar number 4 on the following day.

It has been learned that many of the pillars along the border were damaged, and the team will need additional time to repair them.
