Indian University, Myanmar to play friendly volleyball matches
May 9, 2007: Indian University Champion volleyball team and the Myanmar selected men's volleyball team will play friendly matches here a few days later, according to the Myanmar Volleyball Federation (MVF) on Wednesday.
The Indian University Champion team and the Myanmar selected team, which is preparing for the upcoming 24th Southeast Asian ( SEA) Games slated in Thailand in December, will play five friendly matches at the National Indoor Gymnasium (1) Thuwunna on May 12, 14,15, 17 and 18, the MVF said.
The 14-member Indian University Champion volleyball team will arrived here on Friday, one day ahead of the opening match with Myanmar, it said.
Meanwhile, the Myanmar selected women's volleyball team to vie for the 4th VTV Cup, an invitational women's volleyball tournament, to be held in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam from May 12 to 18, the MVF said.
Myanmar men's and women's volleyball teams competed in the last 23rd SEA Games in December 2005 in Manila, the Philippines, and both of them did not achieve podium-finish.
Myanmar men's volleyball team was away from gold medal of the SEA Games for more than 20 years. The Myanmar team got volleyball gold in the 1983 SEA Games in Singapore.
