India has important role to play on Burma says Brown
January 21, 2008: (BBC Burmese) Britain and India should step up cooperation in the fight against terrorism and work together to isolate militants, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said on Sunday.
Brown, on his first visit to India as prime minister, said he would like to see India join an international body that fights money laundering and terrorist financing, the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
"Its very important that we realise that international action is necessary to persuade the Burmese government that they have got to take seriously all the problems that exist in their country and I want to see regular discussions between Aung San Suu Kyi and the Burmese administration so that we have a reconciliation and a move towards democracy in this troubled country.
I want to see an end to all the violence and the release of the political prisoners in Burma." said Gordon Brown at the press conference.
