India to send more supplies to Myanmar
May 8, 2008: (The Times of India) New Delhi: Under "Operation Sahayata", two IAF AN-32 aircraft and two navy warships have already arrived in Myanmar to provide disaster relief supplies to the country hit by severe cyclone 'Nargis'.
"While the two
AN-32 aircraft off-loaded their supplies at Yangon, another IL-76 aircraft will
take more medicines, tents and sheets to Myanmar
from New Delhi
on Thursday," said an official.
The Indian warships, INS Rana and INS Kirpan, in turn, braved very high
velocity winds from 50 to 60 knots, shifting sands and other navigational
hazards to berth alongisde the naval jetty in Yangon
with their disaster relief material.
"Notwithstanding the grave situation in their country, the ships were
received by Myanmar
minister of social welfare, relief and resettlement, Major-General Maung Maung
Swe, among others," said the official.
