Home Ministry official to arrive to Manipur next month

October 5, 2008: Imphal, Consequent upon Chief Minister O Ibobi's insistence on the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to put up fencing along the 367.5 km long Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur sector, Border Management Secretary of the Union Home Ministry Jarnail Singh will be coming to the State next month.

According to a source based at New Delhi, the Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister, and the Home Minister to initiate border fencing in view of the cross border movement of insurgents, drugs and arms smugglers.

With the Home Ministry willing to consider the Chief Minister's proposal, Border Management Secretary Jarnail Singh will be coming to the State next month to discuss the matter with State officials.

The Government has already decided to take up border fencing along Indo-Myanmar border on Moreh side for a stretch of 10 km.

For this, the Government is awaiting environmental clearance from the Central Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court.
