BIMSTEC countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand agreed to observe the next meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and Trans-national Crime (JWG-CTTC) in Burma in December 2006.
The result came out during the second meeting of BIMSTEC Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism and Trans-national Crime (JWG-CTTC).
The second meeting of BIMSTEC J (JWG-CTTC), which was held in New Delhi on May 4-5, decided to strengthen cooperation on combating financing of terrorism and illicit drug trafficking and intelligence sharing, a statement of the Ministry of External Affairs of India said.
During the meeting the JWG also agreed to increase cooperation on legal issues.
The two-day meeting reviewed the reports of the meetings of its four sub-groups on legal and law enforcement issues, intelligence sharing, combating financing of terrorism and illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals.
The meeting decided on ways and means to further streamline the functioning of BIMSTEC's four sub-groups.
In July 2004, the first BIMSTEC summit in Thailand had decided to set up the Joint Working Group (JWG) to strengthen joint efforts on combating terrorism and transnational crimes.
