Curb insurgency in N-E: JJ to Armymen
The Army Chief, General J J Singh, has asked formations deployed in the North- East to take suitable measures to keep insurgency under check and thereby ensure a conductive environment for the civil administration to function effectively.

New Delhi: The Army Chief, General J J Singh, has asked formations deployed in the North- East to take suitable measures to keep insurgency under check and thereby ensure a conductive environment for the civil administration to function effectively.
This came after Gen Singh reviewed the operational situation in the region in Guwahati, Dimapur, Imphal and other place on Monday and Tuesday.
As already reported by TOI, the Army has stepped up operations against the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa), which has triggered several blasts in Assam despite talks being held by the Centre with Ulfa-nominated People’s Consultative Group.
In Manipur, the Army has been conducting a drive to exterminate terrorist strongholds along Indo-Myanmar border. There are over 20 underground outfits active in Manipur along like the People’s revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, United National Liberation front and People’s Liberation Army, among others.
