New Delhi:  In-place gas reserves in two Myanmar exploration blocks A-1 and A-3 in which India holds 30 percent stake has been certified to be around 5.7-10 trillion cubic feet, state-owned GAIL (India) Ltd said Wednesday.

First commercial gas production of about 16 million cubic meter of gas per day (mmscmd) from the two blocks is expected to commence in mid-2010.

GAIL holds 10 percent stake in both blocks while ONGC Videsh, another public sector firm, holds 20 percent stakes. The other partners in the blocks are operator Daewoo International Corporation and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS).

Gas has been struck so far in three fields - Shwe and Shwe Phyu in Block A-1, and Mya field in Block A-3.

"Resources in the three discovered gas fields, Shwe and Shwe Phyu in Block A-1, and Mya field in Block A-3, have been certified by Gaffney Cline and Associates (GCA). The resource certification by the third party indicates the total estimated gas initially in-place is of the order of 5.7 to 10 TCF," GAIL said.

"The recently concluded feasibility study for field development forecasts that the three fields can produce about 16 mmscmd for 20 to 25 years," the gas major stated.

GAIL is studying ways to transfer gas from the two blocks to India via pipeline or any other alternate route. Myanmar is yet to indicate its views on a pre-feasibility study on a pipeline from that country to northeast India bypassing Bangladesh.
