MESSAGE from the Dalai Lama
On the occasion of the sixty-first birthday, I wish Aung San Suu Kyi and all the people of Burma peace, happiness and a long life.
Dalai Lama: 15June, 2006
On the occasion of the sixty-first birthday, I wish Aung San Suu Kyi and all the people of Burma peace, happiness and a long life.
We
are very saddened that you still live under house arrest. We send you our
prayers for your good health and for your freedom. You are undergoing an
extremely difficult period, but your inspiring leadership is crucial.
By your own determined passive résistance you encourage the finding of a peaceful, non-violent way for the forces of freedom, truth and democracy to emerge from the current atmosphere of unjust repression.
I
offer my prayers for the freedom and well-being of all the Burmese people, for
you and the members of your family.
And I also pray that your efforts may
contribute to lasting world peace, for the practice of genuine non-violence is
something of an experiment on this planet. It pursuit is sacred.
If the experiment ultimately succeeds in places like Burma, it would surely open the way to a far more peaceful world in the future.
