Arrested car thieves had Burma link
The police suspect that the gang used to smuggle stolen cars into Burma through the porous Moreh-Tamu international border.

The Guwahati police have busted a gang of inter-state car-lifters, suspected to have spread its tentacles across the border to Burma.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team picked up three miscreants, Salimuddin Khan, Abdul Rafique and Mohammad Rahimuddin, from Dispur police station area in Guwahati, Assam's biggest city.
Additional superintendent of police (city) Mr. Rajen Singh said all the accused had business links and contacts in Moreh, Manipur and are suspected to be involved in smuggling stolen cars into the neighbouring country.
Khan hailed from Shillong while the other two are from Manipur. Rafique was the driver of a commercial vehicle plying on the Imphal-Moreh route.
"They were picked up by a team from Dispur police station yesterday. They were formally arrested today (Saturaday) after we were convinced of their involvement, following interrogation," the additional SP said.
