Calcutta Sessions Judge Ashim Kumar Roy has ordered the appointment of an interpreter for the trial of 34 Burmese nationals who were produced at his Bichar Bhavan court by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday.
The defence counsel, Madhab Sanyal prayed for the appointment of an interpreter with no links to the Burmese embassy.
"Since Myanmar is at present under military rule, an interpreter from the embassy might make things even more difficult for my clients and they should not have any sort of connection with the Embassy of Myanmar,"
The 33 accused were produced before the court under tight security while one could not be produced as he was ill. The next hearing of the case has been fixed for November 29.
